Now a days horror flicks are fucking packed with jump scares. It unintentionally makes the audience immune to it by the end. This movie works on a more steady pace. Using the empty woods, a cursed camp, and a couple of waiting to be murdered teens to set the stage. Then when you nervously can’t wait any longer it hits you with a bloody execution. Which is tame compared to today standards but are still cool none the less. All slashing effects done by the legendary Tom Savini. *SPOILER* A smiling disturbed mother running around in a turtle neck and offing teenagers creeps me the fuck out, even more than Jason. The end really hit me. Being a horror fan you hear about it all the time. I knew it was coming but just the calm music, and the serenity of the crystal clear water then BANG! UGLY MOTHER FUCKER GETS HER! it worked.

The first one just had so many problems. For one, how is it fair to surprise the audience with a “twist” like the killer being Mrs. Voorhees without introducing the character until the end? And they cut away from the kills WAAAAAAY to quickly without giving you time to digest them. And don’t even get me started on the scene where the girl starts stacking shit in front of a door just to knock it all down a second later when Mrs. Voorhees comes in a different way. Or about the HORRIBLE fucking acting. And don’t give me that “it was the time, it was low budget”. So was Part 2, but it was great.

The original is bad. It definitely is the best out of the original series, but it still isn’t interesting. The sequels are so bad, it’s not even funny. Freddy vs Jason was interesting, but wasn’t an amazing film. Unlike most remakes, the Friday the 13th remake is the best. It’s pretty sad.
