Most people in my coyuntry mostly dislike almost all the remakes you mention (excepting the thing from john carpenter’s) … and they lost interest of the oiginals who started it al!! WHy not people make original stories? I mean, obviouslymost are based on books, but has some unique style that is a shame that people copy it! There is more creativity on the videogames nowadays more than a movie..

And guess what? I’m 12 years old, and I still prefer the 1933 version of King Kong, and the original War of the Worlds. People have stopped looking at production, special effects and acting, it’s all about CGI and explosions.

@DonSkiver Actually, James has said before that he in fact, did like the King Kong remake. He briefly talks about it in the video of his movie collection.

There. All better.

In all seriousness though, most remakes are just capitalizing on nostalgia, or on the success of the original. Occasionally, you’ll have a remake that is in its own right excellent that pays homage to the original without trying to completely rip it off. I know I’m tempting James’ wrath here, but take Peter Jackson’s King Kong. That, my friends, is how you do a remake. It will never be as groundbreaking as the original, and Peter Jackson realizes this from the get go, and he doesn’t try to completely rip it off, pays homage and respect to the original, and ends up creating a damn fine piece of cinema. I know the original King Kong holds a special place in your heart, James, considering its one of your favorite films of ALL TIME, but the remake was awesome.

It would have been a much stronger if they ended it with him in the street screaming “You’re next!”.

it was very fun to see an old film in a movie theater. the ONLY times I ever got to see an original film in theaters , was The Exorcist & Alien both in their directors cuts.

now excuse me for being a bit off topic here , but there are some opinions I would like to share.

I would LOVE to see james or anyone else at TGWTG cover more films like The Fly , Robocop , and the Alien & Predator series.

a little fun off topic trivia james. on the tv show hollywood treasure on SyFy channel , a movie used prop of a full scale battle damamged t-800 endoskeleton used in the future war sequence , was sold for $180,000. the money went to help support stan winston’s school and it is hard for them after stan’s death. he will be missed.

some other sci-fi films & tv shows I think could use a cinemassacre review or just any online critic reviews from TGWTG and beyond , would be Starship Troopers , Battlestar Galactica , Dark City , Virus , Viper , The Original X-Files Film , Pitch Black & The Chronicles of Riddick , and many more.

I think the next comparrison I could recommend would be The Mummy films , and Dracula since Dracula has a long history of constantly remade films.

and finally , some tv series I think either cinemassacre OR the people over at TGWTG could and should get mentiond for negative/positive reviews and examines , would be mighty max , street sharks , transformers beast wars , reboot , earthworm jim , double dragon , mortal kombat defenders of the realm & mortal kombat conquest , todd mcfarlane’s spawn , batman beyond , seaquest dsv , invader zim , and many others.

I could go on all day for what I could talk about , but it would be pointless and I dont think anyone would remmeber them. but these are shows and films that I do remember and never forgot from the 90’s. and it is a shame that even street sharks doesnt get mentioned. yeah it’s like a poor man’s TMNT , but for what it was worth , it was fun for its time.

it goes to show that even a fan of both websites of cinemassacre & TGWTG has an extensive memory of 90’s tv shows and movies. how many franchises and titles do I know? probably way too many to even count. I remember tv shows and movies far more than remembering family members other than my siblings and uncles. while I dont know an extent of the characters or details of those franchises , due to not seeing them for so long , I do remember a LOT of stuff I have seen and could just list titles by memory in an instant.

uh , sorry for the message being long. just expressing a fun comment as all.

always great as ever james. keep doing what you do best , and as the sarge in starshop troopers said ” never pass up on a good thing “.

” say K , when do I get my own flashy memory eraser thingy?”
” when you grow up.”
“hmm. ok.”

I too argue that if you hate the remake, or the sequels, you can still watch the originals. In fact I say this about video games all the time. I may hate say newer anime-inspired Castlevania games, like Portrait of Ruin, but understand they’re catered to a newer audience. Just because they exist doesn’t mean I can’t go back and relive my childhood glory years of Castlevania 1-3 on the NES.

Granted, I first saw it when I was about 5-6, but it absolutely TERRIFIED me.
