Since they started playing in your generation, these cartoons are so well known that I don’t think they’ll ever die. It’s a shame that they’re not played as much, we need more channels like Boomerang for more exposure to future generations. We got lucky.

There was also a Castle Films print of the same Woody Woodpecker cartoon existed somewhere, and it was on 8mm and 16mm in black & white, but sadly, it was completely silent, so Castle decided to throw in a boatload of inter title cards that look stupid and downright terrible. That happened throughout the entire cartoon. If you know silent horror movies, Castle Films did put out silent versions of Woody Woodpecker and other cartoons and everything looks bad, really bad. Watch the originals, don’t watch the silent versions. Castle Films was the LJN of home movies.

That’s why he gets away with shit like running threw solid walls.

Mike is absolutely correct when he says it’s about making more money. They get to make new toys, new merchandise, don’t have to pay royalties to the original owners…it’s not about the content of the cartoons, and never has been. Anyone who says it’s about “liberals this” or “liberals that” is so completely deluded they can’t even see the forest through all the trees. Today’s cartoons have messages that are much more mature and darker in tone than the whimsical cartoons of the 40s. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again…It’s about making as much money as possible. Period.

I was born in 96 but even I got to witness these great cartoons, largely thanks to my dad. That’s how these cartoons will survive, parents showing their kids in an endless cycle. You’re definitely right about them being timeless, I remember when I was really young I didn’t think what I was watching could be more than ten years old, let alone over sixty!
