you know i think the sad thing is that the contest did continue, or at least for waterworld. after atari was bought the last contest had continue for legal purposes because the game was sold and marketed as a contest not to mention people gave their answers. but the winner will not be revealed for i dont know what some other legal shit. but the sword was smelted down to make a profit and the crown for all i know truly is lost. if it is found im willing to guess that it’s value will triple surly for the fact its history of origin and will likely be the greatest gaming artifact sense the nintendo world championship gold cart.

I agree with you.
Seems like Gaming Historian (Norman Caruso) material.
It would be nice if James or Mike could get in touch with him to pitch the idea.

I wish they could too…but it’ll never happen. We’re just in a totally different time and place nowadays. Not to mention, there’s just too many people out there willing to cheat to win by either reverse engineering the game’s code to find the clues or by employing a bunch of people to play the game and decipher the clues for them.

Plus, everything Darkmage said above is also true. Game publishers already have a bad habit of releasing unfinished games and patching them later just so they can make a quick buck and post their earnings sooner…why would they ever front the costs on something like this when they can just continue with the status quo with unfinished games, Day 1 DLC, microtransactions, etc etc and keep making money hand over fist?

Maybe I should try to get in contact with his family to shed some new light on what happened to it? It’s been enough time I think they wouldn’t be upset in telling me the fate of such a relic. To me, this contest is unique and interesting enough to be worthy of a documentary.
