The novel didn’t have the abnormal brain. The monster’s monstrosity was due to it not having the spirit – it was a creature of flesh and soul/mind. Hollyweird couldn’t accept that evil came from a mind and body without spirit. So they added the abnormal brain.

I guess this is where calling the monster “Frankenstein” technically started.
As far as reasoning, Henry is confident in the monster, so he probably sees him as a son or legacy to his name. this is sort of brought up later (I think at the wedding) by Frankenstein’s father how Henry will have a son at some point (I forget the exact context). But Henry, and the audience know the bitter irony he already has a son that he shuns

just something I never saw mentioned.
