I think my favorite thing about this movie is Pretorious. He sort of has the same appeal as Ygor from Son of Frankenstein. They’re evil and immoral, and they love it.

In regards to the tiny people. While their effect is nothing to sneeze at, it’s early filmmaker George Melies who you can thank for many of the oldest of old school camera tricks. He was a stage magician by trade, and treated the Lumiere brothers’ invention as a new way to spice up his act. Later, he would expand on his advances to tell stories, which include the first sci fi film: A Trip to the Moon.

At least one of these magic act experiments involved using some archaic method of luma matting to make his stage hands appear tiny. 😀
