Part 5
The only thing that scares me today is the X-Files. The formula there is really fucking strong and the unknown factor is creepier for me than anything. Dead light in the middle of the night and the abduction that follows… Oh, Fire in the Sky too! By all means, do see this one.
Not only am I not scared of Beetlejuice flyers anymore, but I fall asleep next to signed photos from Hellraiser, Exorcist, Nightmare, Psycho, Alien, Silence of the Lambs, X-Files, Shining, The Thing, Misery and Blair Witch Project up on my wall. I even have an original photo from the set of Predator with Kevin Peter Hall smiling at me from beneath his mask.
Do I miss being scared? I don’t know.

Part 4
More shocked than scared would have been Sybil. Why would a mother ever do that to her daughter? Another shock came with a film about a plane crash in the middle of a desert. The character is forced to drink his own pee and eventually dies of thirst. I remember not wanting to let the water out of the tub for the longest time after that. To this day I haven’t found what film it was. Anyone?
And for the big finale: Mirror, mirror. Oh, Steven Spielberg, how could you include this one in the relatively kid-friendly Amazing Stories TV series? And Filmnet, how could you air it at 6pm? Just as seemingly unassuming as James’ Twilight Zone short. And with a similar “what’s behind you?” theme. Episode directed by Martin Scorsese. I consider it a masterpiece. And to this day I don’t like mirrors.
It was the 80s teen comedy Summer School and the horror film obsessed character duo of Chainsaw and Dave that made me realize the genre was not only meant to creep you out. It was to be interested in and turned into a hobby.
