It seemed, though, like it was a sequel to another game the way the story progressed and certain elements to the story. Not sure if it felt that way to you as well. Just seemed like we should have known the characters beforehand or something. The game play was a lot of fun, I didn’t find that you really needed turbo at all as it seemed the controls were really loose so one could fire pretty rapidly using only their fingers. The bosses posed little challenge to me with the exception of the one on the next to last level. Took a minute to figure out what to do there, but the last boss was pretty straightforward and easy. Nice game for the Genesis.

Reminds me flash game called Light Heroes, but there top down view not side view like Gradius or Zero Wing.

Any old-school shmup player would be annoyed by the contrary, it’s part of the challenge of that kind of games.
Cool review though, never heard of this game before (maybe because I’m not really fond of shmup games).

Matt I read somewhere that there was a Herzog Zwei CD in Japan, details were really sketchy tho… so maybe it never came out. Have never been able to find solid info on it. 🙂 But I would of loved a CD.

Great review Mike. Technosoft made another great Genesis game that no one ever mentioned called “Herzog Zwei” It basicly started the RTS Genre! It also has a killer Soundtrack and is addictive as hell. I was lucky, as I live in Australia my local video store had it and I would rent it out… I always thought it was weird that it said “Genesis” on the cover (Remember no Internet back then, I only knew the system as the Megadrive) One day someone stole the game from the video store. No one sold it I thought I would never get to play it again… then one day I rang every store in Brisbane (where I lived) to try find A copy. I got lucky one store had it. Because it was Import it was almost impossible to find, especially back then. I still have the game to this day. I would give it a 10/10 🙂
