Will the subtitles make into the Blu-Ray version of the movie? Please say yes!

@OMA That’s not exactly how copyright works. See, first of all, it’s the entire title, “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial”, that’s copyrighted. The game uses the same title. I guess they could just have removed the “The Extra-Terrestrial” part from the title, and just kept “E.T.” but it might still have ticked off some people from the studio, or even Spielberg himself. They would be stepping very thin ice if they’d done that. Technically it wouldn’t have been illegal, but if the studio did sue them over it, the court would likely rule in favor of Spielberg and the studio. Anyway, “E.T.” is not copyrighted, as it’s simply an abbreviation of extraterrestrial, which means a being from outer space, aka an alien, or space alien. I guess James wanted to use the real title for the game and wouldn’t have been okay with just settling on the shortened “E.T.” or the lawyers they spoke to simply gave him the same advice I just did, telling him he’d be stepping on thin ice in terms of the legality of things.

Not so sure about the copyright issue, because at 6:29 into the movie you can see someone holding a paper with the name of the game spelled like “E.T.”, not Eee Tee.
