Start at the lower platform then screw jump up to the tight standing area to take out any projectiles. Then shoot Mother Brain with 2 or 3 missiles before the projectiles return to hit you then drop back down to the lower platform to avoid getting knocked forward into the lava and screw jump back up to take them out. You’ll still get hit a few times but keep repeating and you’ll take less hits and beat Mother Brain easier.

He could at least swing through an area where the enemies can drop 20 HP and screw-attack through them all.

I know it’s rough when you’ve got other things to do, but have worked so hard to get to the end of a game, and you don’t know when you’ll be able to try again… Thanks for playing this out for us, James.

The next time you play this and have to farm (works for Super Metroid as well), roll up in a ball and sit on the pipes. It’s a little bit of a rhythm thing, but it only takes on bomb to kill any enemy that flies up out of them. It’s much quicker and easier to farm health and missles this way. You’ll take some hits along the way, but once you figure it out it will make your playthroughs much more bearable.

I play this game and Super Metroid at least once every year or so. I used to watch my dad and his friend play it when I was too little to play myself. Good old dad taught me the farming trick lol.

Metroids quite often drop 30 health when you kill them. If I die on Mother Brain I grind a certain amount of health and then make my way to the room before Mother Brain and grind the rest of my health there. It’s way faster.

You do need to grind a lot more if you run out of missiles, because although metroids drop 75 missiles when killed, they don’t drop missiles as often. But still, you don’t need to grind all the way in Brinstar.

You should also play the Famicom Disk System version sometime. It’s got better music, it can save and it has far less slowdown then the NES version, due to the Famicom Disk System’s RAM cart. The only downside is load times when you start the game, save and move between areas (e.g. from Brinstar to Norfair).

I have played Metroid for years ever since it was released and have a bit of info that involves the original North American release that you did this video on. You know when you finish the game you can play again with less armour. But, what I never see is that if you continue to finish the game multiple times in one sitting, not only do you take more damage each time through but eventually Samus will be fully nude after about the 6th to 8th time. It took me about 4.5hrs to do it but it is true. If I still had the game I would do the work for you but unfortunately you will have to discover this on your own.
