I owned this as a kid. Along with the tell all, full map issue of Nintendo Power.

I will say one thing, this game was 5 stars out of 4. It was 2 thumbs up, and an additional Cthulu tentacle.

It was so far ahead of it’s time!

It was truly one of the biggest influences in my childhood.

It is why at Christmas I shoot missiles at my grandmother’s door to open it.

It is why I replaced the showerhead in my bathroom with a bunch of LED lights and sleep in there to “refill my life meter”.

It’s been awhile since I played this game (1995?) but I remember that ther has been some kind of lazy trick with the Metroid Queen. I’m not 100 % sure but I guess you just had to stay on the same spot for the wohle fight. Then she reaches out for you – keep shooting the shit out of her. This way everything around you attacks you but you’ll never die before her.

Hey James and Mike, always loved Metroid 2 and we enjoyed watching your run of it! I haven’t sifted through enough of the comments to see if anyone’s mentioned this yet, but there is a great fan-made remake of this in the works called AM2R. It seems to be coming along nicely, so maybe when you reach that ‘year from now point’ with the thumbs up to Metroid 2, you’ll feel like checking it out! Hopefully by then it’ll be complete.
