The CGI was terrible, the story was basic and drawn-out, the characters weren’t developed, there was no kaiju battle. I really can’t say enough bad things about it. I say watch the 2014 Godzilla again instead of ever watching Shin Godzilla. The 2014 one was extremely enjoyable – I looved that one.

Yup, that scene is still intact.

By the way, did you guys happen to watch Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, featuring the original ’60s cast?

Every time someone spoke English, it sounded like really bad acting. Even the “Americans” in the film.

Which scene? The closeup of the tail at the end? Why is it considered infamous?

I finally got a chance to see this in theaters tonight. I held off on watching this video until now.
The theater I saw it in was packed. There was a lot of inappropriate laughter every time Godzilla was on screen (even in his final form). I get that these movies are supposed to be fun, but the laughs were ridiculing the cheesy CGI (which admittedly isn’t up to Hollywood standards, nor should it be), which I felt undercut a lot of the horror on screen. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I saw it alone.
This movie was very talkie and political. Not much on-screen monster action. But it was well done and interesting. I was kind of expecting the freezing coagulant not to work and for the US forces to end up nuking the creature at the end. I was expecting a bit more destruction and human fatality. I think all things considered, the Japan government did a pretty good job containing the creature.
Speaking from an outsider’s point of view (I’ve only seen the original Godzilla and all the reboots), I really enjoyed it a lot. Just make sure you watch it with a smart audience. 😛
