One of the modern ones that honestly disturbs me

I don’t think it comes down to being a snob, I think horror movies don’t work for everyone. There are many people who love them when they are younger but have a hard time keeping that love going as they get older. You definitely have to suspend disbelief and be able to vicariously place yourself inside the movie to get the most from one – and if a movie doesn’t compel you to do so, I can’t blame someone for not wanting to.

Still – even if horror movies are very hit/miss and love/hate, some are loved a little more often than others.

I would strongly recommend this one as well. I would also add that I found it very scary – but it does have a different style than your older horror film, definitely liked this one more than The Babadook.

Other modern horror films I loved:
It Follows
Sinister
Insidious
The Conjuring
The Witch(VVitch)

I would rank any of these at or above many horror classics – though direct comparisons are a bit unfair.

I saw Oculus a couple years back, and for the most part, it was okay, but I watched it mostly for Karen Gillan. I like how they set up the equipment part though because it reminded me of the 1986 film, HOUSE. I’m looking to revisit it someday when I show it to a friend.

I liked Oculus and Babadook, but I agree that Babadook is hugely over-rated.

BTW, The woman, what’s her name, is an awful actress.

I thought this was going to be a movie about someone who bought the Oculus Rift, and then he realized the horror of how he was suckered into buying early adopter crap.
