Me: i think ive shared that w u b4
rly interesting shit. do u remember this stuff at all?
my dad: Yes! I remember a Halloween midnight matinee at the State Theater in downtown South Bend. You know, the old theater where the shootout happened when Dillinger robbed his last bank in SB?
Me: yup
My dad: They adertised that spooks would haunt us during the show
Me: well these were a whole thing, not just the movie
were there things in the air n shit?
My dad: People came down the aisles…or something, during the darkest parts of the show and made noises or touched you
Me: ya, he mentions that
My dad: Maybe rocked your seat a bit
They alsp had people get on stage…I was chosen
Me: some of them had glowing painted ghosts and vibrating seats
rad
what happenmed
My dad: I remember there was some kind of game
Or contest and we were given prizes
I was probably 8 or 10
Oh…and yes…I remember flying skeletons and/or ghosts on thin wires. They glowed in the dark.
Copy and paste what I told you.
sry for the trash post, in a hurry lol

James and Mike should try to run a midnight ghost show, or at least be special guest of one in their area. As a former cable access horror host, I’d love to see this and would help out. This is to me, one of the best pieces James has done. His obvious enthusiasm for such an obscure topic really shines through. I give it 5 bats!

If there’s ever another Monster Madness, you should do an episode on GG!

Hi. He never claims to be all knowing about the subject, he draws from his particular view, with a broad scope of knowledge, but he will always overlook some movies. You are after all still just one man with limited time on this plane. I do agree with this being a weaker season when you consider the movies he reviewed. James admitted this himself when he told it’s harder to find relevant movies to review. I personally still enjoyed this season immmensely, the way alone James narrates makes it priceless for me.

The whole plot of Matinee is about those theatrics.

Yeah but he’s always done movies or tv series, a documentary? he could have done this on it’s own on the side ya know? Other than a few and the golden, bronze and silver age stuff, I think this was the weakest monster Madness. he over looked The Bride, The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue and I can name you another 28 horror movies and tv series to cover the entire month and none will be from the 2000’s or most the 90’s.

I guess it wouldn’t fly. Man our grandparents must have had fun at these shows!

Unfortunately, no theatrics are shown, if there were any, just the movie. Another little slice of 50’s life that makes The Blob such a classic.
This was really interesting. As you say, we will never be able to experience a midnight Ghost Show, and it’s a shame. Definitely a product of its time.

You’re twisting the thing. Those years WERE sexist.
