I’m with you on the visuals, this movie definitely has a great atmosphere. I think this movie is one that is just beautiful to look at. Nut for some reason it just didn’t resonate with me story wise and I think it just fell short of being a great movie. I think they could have did a better job. It has a great “premise” but they way they executed it just wasn’t very interesting to me. Goood movie, worth a viewing sure…but it just wasn’t as scary as it SHOULD, or COULD, have been. I think with the source material this film has going for it, it could have been much scarier and much more realistic. I don’t know. I just think it could have been better. I do like the movie though. But when I think “SCARY” I just don’t think of this film, like if made well, I would. But, you gotta love Johnny Depp right. Definitly worth a watch but it could have been better I think. Great video James. This years Monster Madness was great. I hate to see it winding down. I love your take on movies. Your just so knowledgable. I really learn a lot from you, and just your passion for films is so strong it honestly rubs off on me. Makes me want to appreciate films the way you do. Movies are great. And I appreciate you honoring them the way you do. Thanks for the video James.

Edward Scissorhands is my favorite movie. He should have done that one for Franken-Friday.

I like Tim Burton’s work but this time the film is some of a mix mash of many diffents story and characters. Not Bad different but not the real sleeepy hollow story we know. The disney movie ichabod is one of the true telleing story of sleepy hollow but it only last 23 minutes … not much to tell the story but it’s pretty good .

I’m surprised James didn’t notice and/or mention the influence of Mario Bava on this film. Burton was a major fan of Mario Bava’s Gothic horror films, and, as an homage to ‘Kill Baby, Kill’, Burton adopted the basic plot of Bava picture: a skeptical investigator who places his faith in science and reason treks to an out-of-the-way hamlet plagued by a murderous ghost, only to have his skepticism of the supernatural forcibly broken down by the experience. The film includes numerous visual references to Bava’s films, including a scene in which Ichabod dreams of seeing his mother’s spike-pierced face after his father killed her, an image drawn from ‘Black Sunday’.

Also, the exploding windmill at the film’s climax isn’t really over-the-top; it’s a “dust explosion,” which occurs when a fine powder suspended in the air, like flour, is ignited. According to Wikipedia, in the United States alone there have been nearly 100 people killed as the result of dust explosions in flour mills.
