Well maybe she already did her parts to the next one already. She will be missed.

Oh, sorry. Meant to say that stormtrooper guy was the only guy that WASN’T forgettable. One more point before I close… Those characters, CGI or not, weren’t particularly memorable. I’d rather have Jar Jar in this film, because, love him or hate him, at least he’d draw some sort of reaction!

This movie was one massive trainwreck, from start to finish. Just when it starts to threaten to be a good movie, it changes up midstream, and says, “Oh, gotta fight the bad guys, now”! There’s less plot in this than Episode I. They take too much time building up the story, and they start to wrap up, just when they really should be getting going. In other words, it has a start, and an end, not a middle part. The plot points are a bit confused, the new characters are largely forgettable(like the stormtrooper guy) and the new villain is like an emo Marilyn Manson. (I do like his voice, though). In short… this is a Star Wars that I do not recognize. Wish that Disney known when it was time to stop. After all… George did.

I am glad to have watched it at a theater.

In the case of Snoke, they were always changing and tinkering with his design, and had just the mocap data from Serkis, and as for Maz…frankly, for friendly looking characters, I think plastic masks just look terrifying. Look at the dead-eyed gelflings in the Dark Crystal, or the scary Orko thing in Masters of the Universe–CGI just allows for more expressiveness, and in Maz’s case, I think it was fine, it didn’t take me out of the moment or anything. Likewise, Simon Pegg’s mask proved simply too hot in the desert, so they augmented it with CG.

Either way, I think quibbling over the choice of special effects is a minor thing, and what really matters is the characters and stories. People forget that Phantom Menace used a ton of practical effects, from models to alien masks, but that didn’t really change it’s perception.

I like the Force Awakens, but it’s not my favorite. It might be my least-favorite. I actually like the prequels. I like this movie, too, but until I see the other two and judge it as a trilogy, it’s hard for me to rate it. The originals are naturally my favorites.

A lot of plot points left me scratching my head: Han just happens to be hanging around Jaku, They go to discount-Yoda’s place where Anikin/Luke’s lightsaber just happens to be, Starkiller Base seems so much easier to destroy than the Death Star. And Lightsabers can communicate now? WTF? I was disappointed with all the cgi despite reports to the contrary. What little dogfights were in the movie looked like videogame cutscenes. But maybe I’m just nitpicking. I know a few people who think this is the best Star Wars movie ever made. Maybe they’re right, but I think they’re idiots. 😛

It reminded me of the Thing Prequel, where they did all the practical effects and then just used CGI. What a load of bullshit.
