This has been overhauled to meet today’s standards for today’s gamers. These ports of old video games are often treated like an emulator, with some of the functionality of an emulator because that’s what people want.

Gamers today don’t care about old video games. Some people have varying degrees of interest in it, but these games are old now and nobody gives a fuck except the people who grew up with them. Nobody cares if you beat it legit or not, they just want to blow through the game and move on with their life. It’s a combination of today’s games being easier to cater to the mainstream but also instant gratification. There are so many video games available that if one isn’t fun, just move on to something else. There’s not the same room for difficult games like there used to be.

Anyway, you shouldn’t complain so much about save states when you sit there and use the rewind function. That’s a double standard.

The only exception is when games did originally have save data. I’ll still save in the classic way, which was usually done at certain save spots, but every other save I’ll back up my data with a save state as well. I learned to do that the hard way when a glitch in the first Shantae game on the 3DS caused all my data to be erased, which wouldn’t have happened if I had backed it up. Come to think of it, have you guys ever considered doing the Shantae games? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them.
