Sure, it has its flaws like Christopher Lambert and the female actresses not doing any real fighting because they didn’t know how to fight (which is EXACTLY why the SF movie sucks, it’s a martial arts movie without any fighting because the only actor with knowledge was Van Damme), but I still rate it a success because it delivers in what people expected to see, martial arts, ninjas, and the feeling of the videogame. It’s not a “good” movie, but it is frankly the best Mortal Kombat movie (and an above average martial arts movie), and that’s what my body ached to see. I remember leaving the cinema wanting to punch and kill ninjas like my heroes at the movie.
There are people who find joy on the Transformers movies despite the horrible writing and complete disrespect to the source material (which to me is an unforgivable sin), because they deliver the experience they demand.

This theme song is truly epic, it’s the kind of techno they just don’t make anymore. In Russia one guy blasted MK theme out of his window after he saw some drunks fighting outside.

The CG was terrible, the practical effects were worse, including Goro. The fighting was incredibly lame, slow, stiff and boring. I grew up with Jackie Chan and Jet Li, so I knew how good wire work could be, and this was bottom of the barrel. THe acting and set design were truly awful. The whole movie is a total shit stain. But I can see how little kids might like it, not knowing any better.

I was completely blown away as a huge MK fan of that time. I was no where near as into filming as James was when I was a kid, but I went home and tried to get my friends in the neighborhood to put together a Mortal Kombat movie of our own. We tried figuring out who would play each character and developed a plot and script, but the thing eventually became too much work and we moved on. Man the 90’s were so much fun and full of imagination. Also, it would be noteworthy to mention that the original game had digitized actors that they modeled for the graphics. Imagine how bad the movie would have sucked if they used those guys for t
he cast for the film…

MK on the big screen was mind blowing for our age group. It also helped that Bridgette Wilson played Sonya. Talisa Soto played a good Kitana however I’m not sure if that’s because shes a good actor or if she was just hot as Kitana… im going with the hot option. Either way im not mad. Great review!

They came out with “Mortal Kombat: The Album” around the time Mortal Kombat II was coming out, it was “songs inspired by the video game series” and probably the best song was “Techno Syndrome” by The Immortals which then was used in the movie as well.
