BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM – Imagine playing those old 2D beat’em up games, where you mash buttons and pulverize everybody in sight. This game was kind of like that, just in 3D. There’s a bit of puzzle solving going on, finding a place to use your batarang or grappling hook, etc. But for the most part, it seemed pretty simple. The graphics were awesome. It’s fun, but I was drawn to it mostly just because it’s Batman.
TMNT: SMASH UP – Again, a franchise that’s lured me in. It’s just like playing Smash Bros, just a little slower maybe. Shredder, Splinter, and April were playable. When you’re playing as all turtles, it can be confusing. We’re so used to distinguishing them by the colors of their headbands. Leonardo’s blue, Raphael’s red, etc. But say you’re player 1, the indicator pointing to your character is always going to be BLUE, even if you pick Michaelangelo for example. When the turtles are far apart from each other, it’s easy to think, you’re looking for ORANGE, because you’re Michaelangelo. But no, orange is player 4. A little confusing and probably even more confusing for me to explain it.
NEW SUPER MARIO BROS Wii – Of all the games I played at E3, this is the one that I had the most fun with. It’s in the style of “New Super Mario Bros” on DS, except it’s an all new game. It resembles Smash Bros from afar. But it’s very different. It’s simply a sidescrolling Mario game with 4 players at the same time. This means you all compete for coins and powerups and be a total dickhead toward’s the other players. It’s similar to the original “Mario Bros” arcade how you can get the other player killed, but just amplify that a million times. Say for example, the other player is trying to jump a pitfall. You can jump on top of their head and make them fall. It’s an asshole game! And that makes it fun. They should just call it “Super Mario Bros: Asshole”.
